Sam Sanford

I am an artist and woodworker from San Antonio. Every job at Sanford Art Services is handled exclusively by me in order to maintain the greatest attention to detail and the highest level of craftsmanship.

I’ve worked as an art installer for over ten years in residential, commercial, and museum settings, including at the Blanton Museum and at the Contemporary Austin. I also have five years of experience as a residential remodeling carpenter, experience which is often helpful in art installation as it has given me expertise in the composition and properties of all types of walls and a wide variety of means of attaching things to them securely.

I’ve been framing pictures for nearly ten years; I started in a local frame shop but I soon realized their standards of craftsmanship and conservation left much to be desired, and I went into business framing pictures in my home studio in 2011. I utilize the best materials and techniques to provide museum-level protection for artworks. I work with clients and artists to develop new shapes and finishes to suit their needs.

Working as a remodeling carpenter, I eventually learned that my attention to detail and high level of precision were better suited to building furniture, and in 2018 I launched my custom furniture business. I utilize a combination of power- and hand-tools to create traditional joints made to last forever and to age beautifully. Although my techniques are traditional, my designs follow the same simple and clean aesthetic that informs my picture framing. I work with clients to create designs that suit their needs.
